Louisiana is home to three types of casinos: riverboat casinos, Native American casinos, and one land-based casino.

In 1991 Louisiana approved riverboat casino gambling, it was actually the fourth state in the U.S. to legalize it. In 1991 the law only allowed for a maximum of 15 riverboats to operate statewide.
